Each is a high-quality, 14-inch color CRT display station with improved ergonomics, function, and price. They are compatible with the IBM 3179 Model 2 and application programs written for that product will operate on the IBM 3197 C Models. They can be used with the IBM System/36 and System/38 for entering, editing, and displaying alphanumeric data. The IBM 3197 C Models display up to 1,920 characters - 24 lines of 80 characters each and an operator status line. The IBM 3197 C Models may be attached locally to the IBM System/36 and System/38, or remotely through the IBM 5294 Remote Controller. Cable-through is standard with the auto-termination unit provided. An operator-adjustable audible alarm is provided to alert the operator to special conditions. The IBM 3197 C Models have an etched screen which minimizes glare and is resistant to fingerprints. The printer port emulates IBM workstation printers in alphanumeric characters only (5256 or 4214 Model 2) for the 4201 Proprinter, 4202 Proprinter XL, or 5201 Quitewriter Models 1 and 2 printers. The attached printer is addressable from the host (programs and other workstations). The dual address capability is controlled in the logic. The prime workstation address is assigned to the display and the second is assigned to either the printer (D-P mode) or display (D-D mode). In D-D mode, two jobs are controlled concurrently and a user may alternate between screens from each session through the use of a 'hot alternate between screens from each session through the use of a 'hot key.' key.' The low-profile typewriter-style keyboards, with adjustable slope and 24 application-assigned command functions, provide input and control flexibility. Easy-to-use set-up options, provided from the keyboard, allow the operator to utilize a block or underscore cursor, select cursor blink or non-blink, control audible alarm and clicker volume, display cursor location (row/column), select auto-dim on/off, and other functions. The cable-connected keyboard can be moved and the video element can be tilted and swiveled to change the screen angle for convenience of the operator. The keyboard is thin and its slope can be adjusted by the user to 6 or 12 degrees. A keylock is standard with a total of 100 possible key combinations. Record/play allows the operator to store up to 1,500 keystrokes for later playback. The 3197 consists of the following workstation elements: Model C10/ C20/ CD0 CE0 Video 14-inch - Color X X Logic X X 122-key Typewriter Keyboard X Enhanced Keyboard (102 - Key) X Video cable X X Pedestal X X Power cord X X Auto-termination unit X X o A choice of typewriter style keyboards, with either 102 keys or 122 keys provide 24 command functions, a numeric pad, and cursor-move keys. o Set-up function allows the operator to control alarm and clicker volume, modify cursor, turn auto-dim on/off, and others. o Record/play function allows the operator to store up to 1,500 keystrokes for later playback. o Audible alarm, auto-dim, and security keylock are standard. PLANNING INFORMATION CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: The customer should have on hand, or should order the IBM 3197 Display Station Description (GA18-2544) for site planning and preparation work. The customer is also responsible for: o Adequate site, system, and other vendor preparation. o Receipt at receiving dock, unpacking, and placement of the unit. o Physical set-up, connection of cables in customer access area, switch settings, and checkout. o Installing repair identification tags (RID) on each element (logic, video, and keyboard) of the IBM 3197 during initial set-up, The RID tag is used to identify each element (logic, video, and keyboard) of all element exchange products. The RID tag is used by IBM for service entitlement. Only the type and serial number of the product is stored in IBM's entitlement system. Therefore, the RID tags are attached to the logic element when it is shipped from the factory. The RID tags must be removed from this element and installed on each element during initial set-up. Detail information on where to install the RID tags is contained in the Display Station Set-Up Instruction Manual which is shipped with each IBM 3197. See the Set-Up Manual for the exact location of the RID tags. o Contacting IBM Service for attachment of the 3197 communications cable to an on-site serviced IBM control unit where customer access area is not provided. o Determining the required number of spares. The number of spare units is dependent upon the number of the 3197 units the customer has installed, the application requirements, physical locations and layout. The customer should be advised to test spares for correct operation before putting them on the shelf. Spares can be ordered as a complete machine or as individual elements. o Performing customer problem analysis and resolution (CPAR) o Customer is responsible for all keyboard modifications. Customers must remove customer-owned keycaps prior to returning a keyboard for exchange or repair service and return the standard layout keyboard to IBM. A standard layout keyboard will be returned to the customer. o Returning security keys to IBM if any exchange service of the logic element is required. (If the keys are not returned to IBM, the customer will be charged for the replacement of the security keys and locks on a time and material basis). CABLE ORDERS: IBM shielded twisted pair cable, twinaxial cable (or equivalent) is required for product attachment. Cable and associated accessories can be purchased from IBM or a customer-selected source. The customer is responsible for installation and maintenance of the cable and associated accessories. For proper identification, installation, and application of twisted-pair cable and associated accessories, see the IBM Cabling System - Planning and Installation Guide (GA27-3361). For pricing and ordering information, see the appropriate IBM-Direct catalog. For proper identification, installation, and application of twinaxial cable and associated accessories, see the IBM 5250 Information Display System Planning and Site Preparation Guide (GA21-9337).
