IBM 5292 Color Display Station Operator's Guide (shipped GA21-9416 with the product) IBM 5250 Functions Reference Manual SA21-9247 IBM 5250 Functions Reference Card GX21-9249 (Update Available January 27, 1984) Schedule: First customer shipment of the 5292 Model 2 Color Display Station is planned for December 1983. Shipping dates will be assigned sequentially. Orders involving multiple units are subject to an extension of schedule. Technical Information Planning information: Field conversion between the IBM 5292 Model 1 and Model 2 is not possible. However, the Model 2 will operate as a Model 1 in alphanumeric mode. Prerequisites: A 5251 Model 2 or 12 with Cluster (#2550) or Dual Cluster (#2551) feature or a System/34 (System/34 must be at SSP Release Level 7 or higher, and if the 5292 is to be used as the system console, the System/34 must be at diagnostic Release 9.2 or higher), a System/36, or a System/38 (CPF must be at Release Level 4.1 or greater). Programming support (alphanumeric mode): IBM System/34, System/36 and IBM System/38: The IBM 5292 Color Display Station can be added to existing configurations with no change required to current system or application programs. It can also replace a 5251 Model 11, either local or remote, without reconfiguration. Default color functions will replace the attributes associated with each field as the formats are displayed on the 5292. The display of colors for alphanumeric data is achieved through the use of existing attributes codes and can be used without program modification. (For example, the high intensity attributes code will result in white color; the blink attribute code will result in red color, etc.) For optimum use of color, changes to existing programming support for 5251s may be desirable. Programming support (graphics mode): IBM System/36: Programming graphics support for the 5292 Model 2 is provided on System/36 via PRPQ P84056 (5799-BNW). See Programming Announcement Letter IBM System/36 Business Graphics Utilities PRPQ (May 16, 1983). IBM System/34 and IBM System/38 5292 Model 2 Device Support Statement of Direction: With today's announcement, the IBM 5292 Model 2 is supported by the IBM System/34 and IBM System/38 as a 5292 Model 1 alphanumeric display. In order to provide customers with planning information, it is IBM's intent to provide graphics programming support for the 5292 Model 2 on the IBM System/34 and IBM System/38. Announcement of these capabilities will be based on IBM's technical and business judgment. We expect these enhancements to be included in a later release.
