IBM 3178 DISPLAY STATION MODEL C3 Announcement Letter Number 183-081 dated June 7, 1983 US - Last Revised on June 7, 1983 Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability Customer Letter Section IBM 3178 DISPLAY STATION MODEL C3 IBM announces the IBM 3178 Display Station Model C3 for 3178 display users who which to take advantage of a numeric pad on the keyboard. This model is like the 3178 Model C2, except for the placement of functions on the keyboard. Highlights The IBM 3178 Model C3 keyboard layout provides: . A numeric pad in adding machine layout . PF keys 1 - 12 which are activated without use of the alternate shift key . PA1 and PA2 keys which are in lower shift instead of alternate shift . Dup and field mark keys which are in upper shift only . The clear key which is activated without use of the alternate key . A SYS $ key which can be activated in either upper or lower shift, making it especially useful for JES2 programmers . The cursor select key which is moved down one row Product description: The 3178 Model C3 keyboard provides an 87-key EBCDIC typewriter keyboard. The 12 keys on the right of the keyboard are PF keys 1 - 12 when in lower case; they are a numeric pad (0 through 9, plus decimal and tab) when in upper case; they are PF keys 13 - 24 when preceded by the alternate shift. The 3274 entry assist capability will be available for the 3178 Model C3 in December 1983. Availability: The 3178 Model C3 first customer shipment is planned for September 1983. Microcode support: The 3178 Model C3 requires no-charge RPQ microcode in the attached control unit: 8K1034 for the 3274 with Configuration A, B, or C support without the numeric lock feature. 8K1035 for the 3274 with Configuration A, B, or C support with the numeric lock feature. 8K1164 for the 3274 with Configuration D support without the numeric lock feature. 8K1165 for the 3274 with Configuration D support with the numeric lock feature. 8K1059 for the 3276 without the numeric lock feature. 8K1060 for the 3276 with the numeric lock feature. Caution: RPQs must be ordered well in advance of the Model C3 to assure receipt prior to the Model C3. Planning information Data security: Data security features provided with the Model C3 are consistent with those provided with the other models of the 3178. Customer responsibility: The 3178 is designated as a customer set-up (CSU) machine. A copy of the "Operator Reference Guide" (GA18-2128), which contains detailed CSU instructions, is shipped with each machine. Power ratings and power cable: Power - 120V AC, 1-phase, 3-wire, 60 Hz; Power cable - 1.8-meter (6-foot) with non-locking plug.
