It attaches to Series/1 via the new Multidrop Workstation Attachment Feature (#1250). It displays up to 1920 characters in a 24-row by 80 character format. Up to eight 4980s may be attached to each attachment feature (#1250). Highlights - 4980 Display Station . Definable character fonts and keyboard key definition . Audible alarm (operator and program adjustable) . Contrast control (operator adjustable) Description The 4980 is a new display in a compact package for Series/1. The newly designed 127-key keyboard provides a low profile with adjustable slope for efficient operator entry and manipulation of data. All 4980 functions are standard. No specify or special features are available. Data transmission rates of the Series/1 can be up to 500 Kbps, depending on cable length. Displays are attached using twinaxial cabling up to maximum total cable length of 1,219 meters (4,000 feet) on each port. Technical Information Planning Information Cable Orders: Workstations are attached by means of a customer-supplied twinaxial cable with a maximum length of 1219 meters (4000 feet) to each of four cabling ports. A 6 meter (20 foot) cable, Feature (#5780), is available for attachment of the first display station, or when used with twinaxial cable-to-cable connector (B/M 736-2230), to other twinaxial cables. One cable may be used with each cable port. Outdoor use of cabling is not supported. A 2.4m (8 foot) power cable, pluggable at the machine, equipped with a standard non-locking plug is furnished with each 4980. A 1.8m (6 foot) power cable is available with standard non-locking plug via MSORDER (category = accessories/supplies) specifying PN 6838234. Prerequisites: The 4980 requires a Series/1 equipped with a Multidrop Workstation Attachment Feature (#1250). The attachment feature requires contiguous attachment addresses and a feature slot available in a Series/1 Processor or I/O Expansion Unit. In addition, the 4980 requires a storage load from the Series/1 to define character fonts and keyboard key definition including the function of the 24 command keys and replaceable legend keys. The storage load is provided with EDX Version 4 and will be provided with the Real Time Programming System Version 6 in the first quarter of 1984. It is also provided by a diskette which is shipped with the Multidrop Workstation Attachment Feature (#1250). Should it be necessary to obtain the storage load separately, it may be ordered by PN 6114487. MES orders for feature (#1250) may require Communications Power (#2010) to provide + and -12 volts in 4953 Processor Models B and D, 4955 Processor Models A, B, C and D, and in 4959 I/O Expansion Units up to serial number 22499 (all slot A restrictions apply).
