IBM 3178 DISPLAY STATION MODEL C4 ANNOUNCED Announcement Letter Number 184-015 dated February 7, 1984 US - Last Revised on February 7, 1984 Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability IBM announces the IBM 3178 Display Station Model C4 for 3178 display users who wish to take advantage of a numeric pad on the keyboard. This model is like the 3178 Model C3, except for the placement of some functions on the keyboard. Customer Letter Section HIGHLIGHTS The IBM 3178 Model C4 keyboard provides: * A numeric pad in adding machine layout for use in both upper shift and lower shift. * PF keys (1-24), all of which are activated with use of the ALT key. * Keyboard Numeric Lock. DESCRIPTION * The 3178 Model C4 keyboard provides an 87-key EBCDIC typewriter keyboard identical in layout to that provided by RPQ 8K0932 for the IBM 3278 or 3279 display. With this layout, the Model C4 is also appropriate for users of 3278 or 3279 keyboards with RPQ 8K0731 or 8K0734. * The 12 keys on the right of the keyboard are the numerics (0 through 9, in adding machine layout) plus a decimal key and a tab forward key. These keys are active in either upper or lower shift. When used with the ALT shift key, they are PF 13 through 24. * The 3274 Entry Assist capability is supported for the 3178 Model C4, but the Entry Assist nomenclature is not included on the keys. Refer to the Entry Assist announcement letter (183-036, dated March 8, 1983) for further Entry Assist details. * 3178 Model C2 and C4 displays cannot be intermixed on the same control unit. Similarly, 3178 Model C4s cannot be intermixed on the same control unit with 3278 or 3279 displays which use typewriter keyboards # 4621, 4627, or 4628, nor with 3278s or 3279s which use: - 87-key EBCDIC Typewriter Overlay Keyboard (#4640). - 87-key EBCDIC Attribute Select Typewriter Keyboard (#4651). - 87-key EBCDIC Attribute Select Typewriter/APL Keyboard (#4652). However, the Model C4 can be intermixed on the same IBM 3274 control unit with Model C1s and C3s and with 3278s and 3279s which use standard (non-RPQ) keyboards, but not the standard typewriter keyboard. On the same IBM 3276 control unit, the Model C4 can be intermixed with Model C1s and any 3278s or 3279s with standard (non-RPQ) keyboards, except the standard typewriter keyboard. * The 3178 Model C4 is not supported for attachment to IBM 4321 or 4331 Processors or IBM 4701 Finance Communication Controllers.
