Whether and when announcement of this version will take place will be based solely on IBM's technical and business judgment. APL support may not be available for field installation on already existing models of the 3180. DESCRIPTION The ergonomic design of the 3180 provides for operator adjustable screen height, tilt, and rotate. The display screen size is 15 inches (nominal diagonal measurement) and is antiglare and smudge resistant. A typewriter style or data entry style keyboard may be selected. The 122-key keyboard provides control keys, logically oriented cursor movement keys, 24 program function or command function keys, alphameric keys, and numeric pad keys. The low-profile keyboard has three operator adjustable slope settings and is connected to the video unit via a flexible coiled cable. An audible alarm is provided with operator adjustable volume. In addition to the nondisplay field control, security of the 3180 Display Station is enhanced by inclusion of a security keylock as a standard feature. The security keylock key can be removed in either the 'on" or "off" position. either the 'on" or "off" position. The display screen will automatically dim if there is no keystroke activity for ten minutes. The 3180 keying can be reduced by using the record/playback function. A series of up to 96 keystrokes can be 'saved" in the 3180 function. A series of up to 96 keystrokes can be 'saved" in the 3180 via the record key. Upon command, the 'saved" data can be recalled via the record key. Upon command, the 'saved" data can be recalled and displayed. The 'saved" data will be retained when power is and displayed. The 'saved" data will be retained when power is turned off. ADDITIONAL MODEL 1 INFORMATION The 3180 Model 1 operator can select one of the four screen formats compatible with the 3278 Models 2, 3, 4, and 5: Rows Columns Characters 24 80 1920 32 80 2560 43 80 3440 27 132 3564 Each of the screen formats utilizes an optimized character design for screen clarity. In an explicit partitioned state, the screen formats can be changed by program control utilizing the create partition command. This function is supported only when the 3180 Model 1 is attached to a 3274 with Configuration Support D Release 63. The 3180 Model 1 has a 7,640-character buffer, which the operator can vertically scroll through. This function is supported only when attached to a 3274 with Configuration D (Release 63). The modifiable keyboard is standard. The keyboard contains user removable keycaps. Keyboard layouts may be changed to accommodate specific user applications by redefining the keyboard tables using the 3274 keyboard definition utility (language) diskette. Any combination of four standard and modified keyboard layouts may be defined for each controller. This support allows the user to move the location of a character on the keyboard, swap character locations, or delete characters from the keyboard. The keyboard definition utility will be available with the 3274 Control Unit Configuration Support D Release 63 only. The operator can select dual or monocase characters from the keyboard providing the capability of displaying uppercase alphameric characters only for 3277 compatibility. The 3180 uses the 3270 field formatting capability, which permits individual fields of data on the screen to be program-defined with various attributes such as protected/unprotected, alphameric, normal/intensified, and displayable/nondisplayable. Also provided are the extended highlighting field and character attributes: underscore, reverse, image, and blink. The operator may initiate a local display-to-printer copy function (i.e., without host intervention) from the keyboard of a 3180 Model 1. When the 3180 is attached to 3274 Control Unit or 4300 processor (4321, 4331, or 4361) Display Printer Adapter, the printer designation is controlled by operator use of the IDENT key and by: (a) a printer authorization matrix that is loaded into the 3274 Control Unit through a user-written host application program or (b) a customer-definable matrix loaded from the system diskette at IML time. When the 3180 Model 1 is attached to a 3276 Control Unit Display Station, the printer designation is controlled by operator use of the IDENT key and by a configuration default matrix. This matrix is determined by the relative positions of devices attached to the 3276. (The host can perform a 'copy" in a manner compatible with the 3276. (The host can perform a 'copy" in a manner compatible with 3271/3272 support.) An optional (accessory) two-way switch on the 3180 Model 1 allows the user to switch from one controller to another. ADDITIONAL MODEL 2 INFORMATION The 3180 Model 2 can be integrated into 5250 Information Display System networks on a System/36, a System/38, or a 5294 Remote Control Unit. The 3180 Model 2 provides all of the base 5251 Model 11 functions. When supported by the System/36, it also provides a separate message line for error or help messages between the last data line and the status line. Therefore, these messages do not need to be displayed in the data area of the screen. The 3180 Model 2 is supported by the System/36 and System/38 as a 1920-character display (24 lines of 80 character positions each), and is fully program compatible with 1,920-character 5250 family displays. The cursor location indicator (row/column) is user selectable and is provided in the status line. Multinational character set is provided and is operator selectable. A unique component of the 3180 Model 2 is the cable attachment element. This element provides easy signal cable attachment and a convenient method of disconnecting a 3180 without disrupting the host or other workstations on the same twinaxial cable.
