HARDWARE COMPATIBILITY: The 5216 is equipped with either a parallel or asynchronous serial interface and is designed to be "hardware compatible" with many personal computers (both IBM and non-IBM). IBM has tested several non-IBM personal computers. In general, these systems were found to be "hardware compatible" with the 5216. The words "hardware compatible" mean that; (1) the host system parallel or asynchronous serial interface is logically compatible with the 5216 interface, and that (2) the host system is capable of generating a data stream (i.e., control codes and character codes) which is properly interpreted by the 5216. Testing of customer applications which involve specific non-IBM personal computers and their related software is the responsibility of the customer. SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY: The following software products were tested with the 5216. Only a specific level of each software product was tested. Other levels of the same software product may operate differently, and therefore, may or may not function properly with the 5216. Proper function of these software products does not imply proper function of any other software product. Where possible, the control codes for the 5216 are consistent with those used on the IBM Personal Computer Graphics Printer. This means that much of the software written for use with this printer will "function properly" with the 5216. The words "function properly" mean that the 5216, using its supported features, in general gives the type of output expected from the software. The words "function properly" do not imply that the 5216 utilizes every feature of the software which may be utilized by other printers (i.e., graphic printing which the 5216 does not support). Also, "function properly" does not imply that the software takes full advantage of all the features and capabilities of the 5216 (i.e., proportional spacing). Extensive testing was done with each software product on the list. Due to the complexity of the software, however, it is unlikely that every case was tested. Therefore, "proper function" refers only to those cases tested by IBM on each software product. The IBM licensed software programs listed below "function properly" with the IBM 5216 Wheelprinter when running on properly configured IBM personal computers with the parallel or asynchronous serial printer interface. * DOS 3.0 (PC AT only) * DOS 2.1 with Basic * DOS 1.1 with Basic * DOS 2.0 with Basic * CP/M-86 (1) 1.0 Operating System * IBM 3270-PC Control Program Version 1 Release 2 * Macro 1.0 Assembler * Basic 1.0 Compiler * Pascal 1.0 Compiler * BPI 1.0 Accounting Packages * Peachtree 1.1 Accounting Packages (print out wider than 8.5 inches -- manual or continuous forms required) * Personal Editor 1.0 * WordProof 1.0 * Multiplan (2) 1.0 (auto paper handling recommended to prevent time out in data transfer when loading new page) * DisplayWrite 2 1.0, 1.1 * PeachText (3) 1.0 * EasyWriter (4) 1.1 * pfs: (5) File/Report 1.0 * VisiCalc (6) 1.2 * Time Manager (7) 1.01 * dBase II (8) 2.4 * Lotus 1-2-3 (9) 1A * WordStar (10) 3.2 * SuperCalc2 (11) 1.0 * Context MBA (12) 2.3 * Multimate (13) 3.2 * Perfect Writer (14) * UCSD p-System (15) (1) CP/M and CP/M-86 are registered trademarks of Digital Research, Inc.)
