Both models are functionally equivalent to the 3290 model 1, and have a new slim profile. The model 220 provides a data/typewriter keyboard similar to the 3290 Model 1. The model 230 offers a larger keyboard with an integrated keypad as an option. The latter is in lieu of the separate keypad previously offered on the model 1. The 3290 model 220 or 230 will connect to an IBM 3274 Control Unit with Configuration Support D at Release 64 or higher and requires the IBM 3274 Load Diskette Feature Code #9301 at level D41.00 or higher. This is a new release of #9301 and is required for the 3290 model 220 or 230. TRANSITION PERIOD o On-Order Purchase 3290 Model 1s Effective October 1, 1985, all on-order purchase 3290 model 1s scheduled on or after October 4, 1985, will be converted to 3290 model 220 and shipped as previously scheduled with the exception of those orders that specified a keypad (#4830 or #4831) which will be converted to a model 230. o On-Order Rental 3290 Model 1s Existing rental orders scheduled on or before December 27, 1985 will be shipped as scheduled. Orders scheduled or deferred after December 27, 1985 may be canceled or left unscheduled, unless the customer requests 1) an improved delivery date of December 27, 1985 or earlier, subject to the availability of 3290 model 1s, 2) a conversion to purchase 3290 model 220/230s, or 3) cancellation of the order. o New 3290 Model 1 orders New orders for purchase or rental model 1s must be received and time stamped in the branch office by November 29, 1985 and will be scheduled on an as available basis. By December 27, 1985 orders will either be accepted and shipped, or canceled if no units can be allocated. (Orders that cannot be accepted will be canceled from the backlog.) o Installed 3290 Model 1s Installed rental and purchased machines are unaffected by this announcement. Customers with installed rental or purchased machines may continue to order features and accessories as currently marketed through December 31, 1986. Rented equipment will continue to be eligible for conversion to purchase. The following additional provisions apply to state and local government customers for the machines that are eligible for the state and local government lease plan under the Agreement for Lease or Rental of IBM Machines. o Machines installed on a rental basis may be converted to lease provided the conversion occurs prior to the effective date of the machine's withdrawal from marketing. o On-order machines that have been assigned an estimated shipment date may be leased from IBM concurrent with the machine's installation or prior to the effective date of withdrawal, whichever is later. On-order machines that have not been assigned an estimated shipment date and machines that you order prior to the effective date of the machine's withdrawal from marketing may be leased from IBM, provided IBM accepts the order and assigns an estimated shipment date. These machines may be leased concurrent with the machine's installation or prior to the effective date of the machine's withdrawal from marketing, whichever is later. o If you request a deferment in the estimated shipment date of an on-order machine, the deferral may disqualify the machine's eligibility for lease from IBM. If you intend to lease these machines from IBM, please let your marketing representative know as soon as possible and before the effective date of withdrawal from marketing. If you would like additional information concerning this announcement, please contact your IBM marketing representative.
