Additional service enhancements provide IBM hourly exchange service for selected machine/machine elements for the 4683 Point-of-Sale Terminal. Purchase Price Range: $20 to $680 Planned Availability Date: September 25, 1987 for the display and keyboard features, January 5, 1987 for power cables with locking plugs Customer Letter Section HIGHLIGHTS o An operator display with two rows of 20 alphanumeric character positions o A numeric shopper display for shopper viewing o A 346 mm (14-inch) color display and pedestal o Support for up to four displays on a 4683 Terminal o An alphanumeric keyboard for alphabetic or numeric entry o A power cable with a locking or non-locking plug o Previously announced features available as machine elements o Machine/machine element hourly exchange service available DESCRIPTION The additional displays allow configurations for operator and shopper viewing to meet specific application environments. The operator display has two rows of 20 alphanumeric character positions and can be distributed or mounted on the keyboard. The eight-position numeric shopper display may be integrated or distributed and has six function indicator lights. The 346 mm (14-inch) color display has a program selectable 480 or a 2,000 character screen format. A maximum of four displays may be attached to a 4683 with the following restrictions and combinations of video and non-video displays. A maximum of two video displays may be attached to a 4683. The video displays include the 346 mm (14-inch) color display and the previously announced 127 mm (5-inch) and 300 mm (12-inch) monochrome displays. Feature Expansion A (#4000) is required for each video display attached. A maximum of two non-video type displays can be attached to a 4683 in any combination. The non-video displays include the shopper display, the operator display and the previously announced 40-character alphanumeric display. The following restrictions apply: o A maximum of one shopper display may be attached. The shopper display is designed as a second display; therefore one other non-video or video display must be attached as the system interface to the operator. o Combinations of the 40-character alphanumeric display and the 127 mm (5-inch) monochrome display is limited to three and a fourth display cannot be attached. The alphanumeric keyboard with 84 keys allows applications requiring alphabetic as well as numeric entry to be performed on the 4683. The keyboard may be used in a distributed or in an integrated configuration. Additional specify options provide 1.8 m (6-foot) or 4.3 m (14-foot) power cable with either a locking or non-locking plug for the 4683. IBM has expanded the list of machine/machine elements for which IBM hourly exchange service is available to include selected machine/machine elements of the 4683.
