It is a high-quality, 14-inch Amber-Gold or Green monochrome display station with improved ergonomics and function. It is compatible with the IBM 5291 or 3196. Application programs written for these products will operate on the 3476. The 3476 displays up to 1920 characters -- 24 lines of 80 characters each and an operator information area. The low-profile typewriter-style keyboards, with adjustable slope and 24 application-assigned Command functions, provide input and control flexibility. Easy-to-use setup options, provided from the keyboard, allow the operator to utilize a block or underscore cursor, select cursor blink or non-blink, control audible alarm and clicker volume, display cursor location (row/column), select Auto-Dim on/off, and other functions. The cable-connected keyboard can be moved and the video element can be tilted and swiveled to change the screen angle for convenience of the operator. The keyboard is thin and its slope can be adjusted by the user to six or 12 degrees. A keylock is standard with a total of 100 possible key combinations. The Record/Play/Pause functions provide the following: Up to 1500 characters can be recorded for playback as required. A Pause may be utilized to insert unique information. The use of Record/Play/Pause to "enter the password" may be inhibited via a nonreversible selection in Setup mode. Total disable of Record/Play/Pause may be effected via a nonreversible selection in Setup mode. PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS: The 3476 is supported, like the 3196, by the current System/36 Release 5, System/38 Release 8 and AS/400 Release 1.0. Refer to PREREQUISITES section for more information. PLANNING INFORMATION CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: Planning is the responsibility of the customer. The customer should have on hand, or should order the IBM 3476 DISPLAY STATION INTRODUCTION AND INSTALLATION PLANNING MANUAL (GA18-2952) for site planning and preparation work since it is not shipped with the machine. The customer is also responsible for: o Adequate site, system and other vendor preparation. o Receipt at customer's receiving dock, unpacking and placement of the unit. o Physical setup, connection of cables in customer access area, switch settings and checkout. o Contacting IBM service for attachment of the 3476 communications cable to an on-site serviced IBM control unit where customer access area is not provided. This service will be provided at current hourly rates. o Determination of the required number of spares. The number of spare units is dependent upon the number of the 3476 units the customer has installed, the application requirements, physical locations, and layout. The customer should test spares for correct operation before putting them on the shelf. Spares can be ordered as a complete machine or as individual elements. o Contacting the Service/Exchange Communication Center (S/ECC) on a toll-free number for service (800 428-2569). o All keyboard modifications. Customers must remove and save customer-owned keycaps prior to returning a keyboard for exchange. A standard layout keyboard will be given to the customer. o Returning security keys to IBM if any exchange of the video workstation element is required. (If the keys are not returned to IBM, the customer will be charged for the replacement of the security keys and locks on a time and material basis). Model changes are not field installable. If keys are lost, the video element should be sent to an IBM Service/Exchange Communication Center. This service is available on an hourly service basis.
