The trade-in will be the current memory price/MB as a credit against the price of the #4104 and/or #4114 main storage cards on the Models D04 or D06. o DASD, tape, diskette, communications and LAN adapters and battery backup features remain on the upgraded system. o The following D02 model features cannot be used on the upgraded D04 or D06 models and remain the property of the customer: MFIOP Expansion (#3116), First Workstation Attachment (#6143), ASCII Workstation Expansion (#6144) and Card Expansion (#7106). o Customers upgrading from a Model D02 to a Model D04 or D06, with diskette feature #6139 installed in the system unit, must convert the diskette feature to #6133. o Either an EIA 232/V.24 One-Line Adapter (#6154 or #6174) or an EIA 232/V.24 Two-Line Adapter (#2654 or #2657) is a prerequisite for upgrading to a Model D04 or D06. A modem for electronic customer support will also be required. The installation of other communications adapters on the Model D02 may require additional prerequisites on a Model D04 or D06. All other parts removed as a result of the model upgrade are the property of IBM and must be returned. New features to support the function provided by removed features must also be ordered to ensure configuration and capacity compatibility. The appropriate new software upgrade processor-based charge applies. PRODUCT POSITIONING The 9402 Model D02 lowers the entry point of the AS/400 family and maintains the same high degree of function as offered on the AS/400 9402, 9404 and 9406 models. A new lower-priced software group for the 9402 Model D02 further enhances the system's price/performance. The 9402 Model D02 should be considered in customer environments requiring two to six user low-cost solutions and/or OS/400 compatibility, Systems Application Architecture (R) (SAA (TM)) compatibility, integrated data base and a single operating system covering a wide range of products. The introduction of Plug'N'Go system solutions (Refer to Product Announcement 191-136, dated September 4, 1991) and a new level of ease-of-install, operation and maintenance makes the 9402 Model D02 an ideal solution for new accounts and large customers with multiple locations. The 9402 Model D02 provides the business partner the capability of easy integration with the system and other applications, providing a complete business solution. The 9402 Model D02 provides growth options for small businesses and large accounts with multiple locations who need to implement new applications, accommodate increased application volumes or increase the number of concurrent users. The 9402 Model D02 should be considered for customers who do not require the capacity provided by the IBM 9402 Model D04. Users of systems such as the System/32, System/34 and some System/36 models with limited growth projections should consider the 9402 Model D02 as a replacement system. Customers who anticipate stronger growth requirements should consider migrating to the appropriate larger 9402 or 9404 models. Entry customers who require more than 1200MB of DASD or more than three communications lines and/or significant additions to their application workload should consider either the 9402 Model D04/D06 or 9404 models. Customers who require concurrent ISDN and a communication line operation should consider the 9402 Model D04. (R) Registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation. (TM) Trademark of International Business Machines Corporation. The 9402 Model D02 should be considered when the majority of a customer's applications are commercial or office business solutions. The RISC System/6000 (TM) should be considered when the majority of the customer's applications are technical workstation solutions in an AIX (R) environment and require numeric-intensive computing, high-performance graphics, multivendor connectivity or AIX/UNIX (1) migration. Linkage between 9402 Model D02 and the RS/6000 is C and COBOL for languages, SNA (LU6.2) and TCP/IP for communications, and SQL for data base. The 9402 Model D02 and the 5159 Programmable I/O Controller should be considered when a low cost solution is necessary to solve the problem of attaching ASCII devices of all kinds, including PLCs, badge readers, gates, gas pumps, scanners and other devices that attach via EIA 232/422 and require low-level device drivers for control and data transfer.
