Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability

       The following Screen Reader (TM) features provide control of
the IBM Screen Reader/2 (#2261649) or IBM Screen Reader/DOS
Version 1.2 (#2261648) program.
o   Screen Reader Keypad (#2549, 1393515)
o   Keypad Cable (#2550, 72X8537)
o   Screen Reader Adapter (#2551, 57F1588).
The Screen Reader Keypad and Cable connect to any Personal System/1
(TM) or Personal System/2 (R) (PS/2 (R)) via the Personal System
mouse port.  The Screen Reader Adapter provides connection for the
Screen Reader Keypad when using either the Personal Computer AT (R)
or PC/XT (TM).

HIGHLIGHTS
o   The Screen Reader Keypad and Cable provide control of IBM Screen

    application running on the computer takes control of the
    keyboard.
o   The Screen Reader Keypad and Cable attach to the IBM Personal
    System/1 or Personal System/2 via the Personal System mouse port.
o   The Keypad is attached to the IBM Personal Computer AT and PC/XT
    via the Screen Reader Adapter.
DESCRIPTION
USER PRODUCTIVITY
The Screen Reader features may be ordered now (separately).  The
Screen Reader Keypad provides a convenient interface for users to
input commands to the Screen Reader/2, used with OS/2 (R)
Version 2.0, or Screen Reader/DOS Version 1.2, used with DOS
Version 3.30, or later.  Each of these software packages along with
the Screen Reader features enable a blind or visually-impaired user
to hear information displayed on the screen.  For the IBM Personal
System/1 or Personal System/2, only the keypad and cable are
required.  For the IBM Personal Computer AT or PC/XT, the adapter is
also required.

       No publications are shipped with the announced product.
Installation and use of IBM Screen Reader hardware is documented in
the Screen Reader/2 or Screen Reader/DOS Version 1.2 software
packages.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:  The Screen Reader Keypad and Cable connect to
the IBM Personal System/1 or Personal System/2 via the Personal
System mouse port.
       The Screen Reader Adapter fits into a PC XT or Personal
Computer AT slot and accepts input from the Screen Reader Keypad and
Cable.
PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS:  IBM Screen Reader Hardware is designed to
work with either Screen Reader/2 or Screen Reader/DOS Version 1.2
software.
LIMITATIONS:  The Screen Reader Adapter may not be used with the
General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB) adapter.
USER GROUP REQUIREMENTS:  This announcement satisfies all
requirements from one or more of the Worldwide User Group
Communities, which include Australasian SHARE GUIDE (ASG), COMMON,
COMMON EUROPE, GUIDE, European G.U.I.D.E., Japan GUIDE SHARE (JGS),
Latin American GUIDE (LAG), SHARE EUROPE and SHARE.  The IBM Screen
Reader hardware provide for attachment on all IBM Personal Systems
and Personal Computers.
PLANNING INFORMATION
CABLE ORDERS:  The Screen Reader Keypad uses a standard IBM Personal
System keyboard cable, ordered separately.

       These products use the security and auditability features of
IBM Personal System or Personal Computer and DOS or OS/2.
       User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures and
appropriate controls in application systems and communications
facilities.
