Comprehensive file backup solutions are also available and meet the configuration requirements of most systems, including IDE, SCSI and Micro Channel buses. As for reliability, our options provide storage solutions that are among the best in the industry; specifically, IBM disk drives made with patented IBM magnetoresistive technology, which maximizes the storage capacity per disk. Options by IBM storage offerings include SCSI and IDE hard drives in a wide range of capacities. CD-ROM drives give a secure and cost-effective way to store images, sound, video and graphics. Choose from a variety of tape drive formats for file backup, PCMCIA hard drives for storage portability, and floppy diskette drives for user convenience. Memory Adding memory to PCs is one of the most effective things to do. This speeds application execution because data and instructions reside in RAM instead of on a disk, so the disk I/O is less. Speed up performance with Options by IBM L2 memory cache modules. Adding these modules can make applications execute up to 20% faster. For RAM expansion, choose from a full line of parity memory modules. Error Checking and Correcting (ECC) modules detect and correct all single-bit errors for reinforced accuracy. Capitalize on advanced microprocessors with 64-bit bandwidths with 8-byte ECC SIMMs. "Soup up" notebooks with a wide selection of PCMCIA products such as IC DRAMS, which add memory capacity with very low power use, to conserve battery power. Communication With Options by IBM, no computer in a network ever has to stand alone. Our wide range of communications products will link them with other workstations, LANs, WANs, servers and mainframes. IBM has industry standard adapters for Ethernet LANs, including twisted pair, thin-coax, and PCMCIA models, plus combination adapters. Choose from many solutions for token-ring networks, including high-speed adapters with ISA, Micro Channel and EISA format compatibility. PCMCIA and a MAU hub for token ring are also available. The ISA WaveRunner digital modem for high-speed communications increases speed to 64Kbps with ISDN channels. A broad selection of high-speed industry standard data/fax modems is available. To hook up with mainframes, a variety of modems with terminal emulation capability is offered, including 3270 for PCMCIA. With V.32bis DSP Data/Fax Modem voice messaging, telephone answering, fax transmit/receive, and high-speed data, modem communications can be added with one product. Multimedia IBM's multimedia options provide ways to turn PCs into complete audio and video information centers. A powerful audio environment complete with CD-quality sound can be created with Audiovation. It employs an Mwave(TM)-based programmable Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and has a MIDI interface, multiple instrument voices, and digital-sampled sound. Also offered are competitively priced solutions featuring Sound Blaster capability to complement entertainment software. Video is becoming a valuable business tool, and our digital and analog products provide needed capabilities. They provide high-performance video capture and playback or playthrough, scalable windows, a Windows(3) accelerator and audio performance when used with Sound Blaster. Accessory The personal computer system components that come in contact with the user's sense of touch, namely the keyboard and mouse, can have a big impact on productivity and comfort. Available through the Options by IBM Accessory product line are a variety of IBM Enhanced Keyboards and the Enhanced Mouse that support IBM and IBM-compatible computers produced by other manufacturers. DisplayMiser is another accessory being introduced today. DisplayMiser conserves energy by shutting down the power to the monitor when no activity occurs for a specified time interval.
