The ThinkPad 510Cs features the Blue Lightning 486BL2-50 processor and local bus video to increase the already outstanding performance of the 500. The new models also feature a MultiPort for easy attachment of peripheral devices on the road or in the office. Business Solutions An amazingly crisp, highly readable 7.7-inch (active viewing area measured diagonally) color LCD provides VGA resolution with a 14:1 contrast ratio and 256 colors (640 X 480). Simultaneous VGA display support also lets you attach an external display for office use. An enhanced parallel port to connect printers and other external devices is supported as well as serial devices. The ThinkPad 510Cs is battery or AC adapter powered, usable in or out of the office with enough battery life to operate the system throughout a typical trip (2 1/2 to 8 hours with a fully-charged battery). A standard 3.5-inch external 1.44MB diskette drive makes it easy to backup data, transfer files and load software without the added weight of an internal floppy drive. The ThinkPad 510Cs's high performance 50/25MHz Blue Lightning 486BL2-50 microprocessor, standard 4MB memory (expandable to 20MB), and 200MB hard disk provide more than enough speed and resources to take even the most complex applications on the road. The 510Cs provides one Type II PCMCIA card slot to expand the system's capabilities still further. Complementing the PCMCIA function is EasyPlaying, a utility provided as part of the standard preloaded software, which helps users with status and information on PCMCIA cards installed in their system. In addition, on Microsoft** Windows EasyPlaying can register an application program for PCMCIA cards and execute them automatically. ** Product or company name is a trademark or registered trademark of its respective holder. End User Productivity Power Management: The IBM Thinkpad 510Cs offers a number of advanced power management capabilities, including different profiles for battery and AC-powered modes. The "doze" mode automatically reduces the speed of the microprocessor when computer power is not needed. The "suspend" mode conserves even more power either with a simple keystroke or with a preset timeout. To ensure maximum battery life, "hibernate" mode protects data by storing it automatically to the system's hard disk and allows you to resume work without restarting your application. Mobile Software at Your Fingertips: A rich suite of preloaded software is included on your system for your use right out of the box. PC DOS 6.3 Microsoft Windows 3.1 IBM ThinkPad 510Cs Demo Lotus** cc:Mail**, e-mail for the Advantis** Network Lotus Organizer V1.12 Lotus ScreenCam V1.0 Official Airline Guide** FlightDisk** Triton** CoSession** Host Prodigy** America Online** SofNet FaxWorks** V3.0 Notes Some of the preloaded applications (America Online, Prodigy, and FaxWorks and Triton CoSession Host) will not function without an appropriate modem. Part Description Number AC Adapter 73G3411 MultiPort 73G3388 Floppy Diskette Drive 59G7918 Floppy Diskette Drive Cable 73G3422 TrackPoint II Cap Set (2) 73G3463 Power Cord 13F9959 Limitations: Some of the preloaded mobile application software programs (America Online, Prodigy, and FaxWorks) will not run without an appropriate modem. The following apply to the use of PCMCIA on your ThinkPad 510Cs: PCMCIA data/fax modems with V.42bis data compression are limited by applications that use BIOS for controlling the serial port. Data compression for applications that do not bypass the BIOS is limited to 19.2Kbps. Many applications bypass the BIOS; they allow data compression approaching the theoretical limit of 57.6Kbps or four times the data compression. For PC cards that require definition of memory allocation as a parameter passed to a device driver in the CONFIG.SYS file, or memory allocation in files such as the PROTOCOL.INI or NET.CFG, there is a restriction on the memory address ranges that can be used. The restriction is summarized as follows: Do not specify the memory range within C0000h - C0FFFh or D0000h - D0FFFh for PC cards. The following apply to the use of the setup capabilities of your ThinkPad 510Cs: Ctrl+Alt+F3 is only to be pressed from a DOS or full-screen OS/2 command prompt (e.g., C:\>). This key combination will not function from Windows or from the Presentation Manager in OS/2. If you enter the SETUP program directly from an application, your application will be temporarily suspended and will not operate in the background. Because of this, time-sensitive applications such as some communications and LAN programs may be affected. While in SETUP, your computer will not enter Suspend or Hibernation modes, including when you close the lid. The following apply to the battery capabilities of your ThinkPad 510Cs: When you are operating on battery power and need to replace the battery, wait 30 seconds between removing the discharged battery and inserting a spare battery. If the battery pack has not been used for seven or eight weeks, it may require several cycles of charge and discharge before it begins to operate normally again. The first recharge will require 10 to 15 minutes with a correspondingly short rundown time of about 20 minutes. The recharge interval will increase with each cycle with correspondingly more runtime. Generally, by the fifth cycle the battery should return to normal operation. Do not remove or insert the battery while displaying the fuel gauge (Func-F2) as it may cause an erroneous display. The following apply to the use of Suspend and Hibernate modes: If you enter Suspend or Hibernate mode with a diskette inserted in the diskette drive, the same diskette must be in the diskette drive when resuming operation. If you enter Suspend or Hibernate mode with a PCMCIA card inserted in the PCMCIA slot, the same PCMCIA card must be in the PCMCIA slot when resuming operation. Hibernate does not save/restore the status of PCMCIA cards. When you resume operation after Hibernate mode, the PCMCIA card is no longer configured and will not be recognized. If you are connected to a Local Area Network (LAN) that periodically polls for station activity, your connection may be terminated while the computer is in Suspend or Hibernate mode. Any software program that was running over the LAN is not re-entered when you resume. System does not enter Suspend or Hibernate mode while a PCMCIA modem card is in busy status. Planning Information Customer Responsibilities: The ThinkPad 510Cs is designed for customer setup. Setup documentation is contained in the User's Guide shipped with the system. Cable Orders: All required cables are included with the system. Installability: The ThinkPad 510Cs system requires about 10 minutes for installation. Installation includes unpacking, setting up and powering on the system. Additional time is required to install other memory, other features, and to customize software.
