IBM systems include: o RISC System/6000 (R) via a multiport asynchronous communications adapter o AS/400 (R) via an ASCII Workstation Controller (not supported as an AS/400 system console) o PC system via an asynchronous communications adapter o ES/9000 (TM) family of products attached via 3174 Establishment Controller Asynchronous Emulation Adapter (AEA) The 3153 offers ASCII/ANSI/PC emulations used by the most popular software packages. The 3153 features WYSE** WY-60, WY-50/50+, DEC** VT-300/200/100, SCO** Console, AT386, ADDS** Viewpoint, TeleVideo** TVI-925, and PC-Term emulations. The 3153 is designed for the wide variety of multiuser operating systems, which includes: AIX (R), SCO Xenix**, UNIX**, PICK** and multi-user DOS. IBM 3151 ASCII emulation continues to be available in the IBM 3151 ASCII display station. The 3153 main serial port communicates via RS-232C up to speeds of 134.4Kbps. A second auxiliary serial port, RS-232C, communicates up to speeds of 38.4Kbps, allows attachment of a serial printer, or can be used for host attachment (dual session by dual port). The 3153 also includes a parallel printer port. Other 3153 ASCII display features include: o 24, 25, 28, 42, 43, or 50 data rows in any combination of 80 or 132 columns o Eight pages of memory o Two pages of display for full- or split-screen viewing o Double-wide or double high/wide characters o Cut and paste o Desk accessories (clock, calendar, calculator, ASCII chart) o 28 programmable keys o Programmable banner o 29 national languages o Enhanced keyboard (PC-style) o Adjustable tilt-swivel stand o Autosensing universal power supply The 3153 meets many national and international standards, including guidelines on ergonomics, emissions, safety, and power consumption. This includes International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard 9241 Part 3, MPR-II recommendation (magnetic and electric field compliance only), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency "Energy Star" program. DESCRIPTION o Ten Resident Popular ASCII, ANSI, PC Emulations The 3153 offers ten popular resident ASCII/ANSI/PC emulations: WYSE 60, WYSE 50/50+, DEC VT320/220/100, SCO Console, AT386, TVI 925, ADDS Viewpoint, and PC-Term. These ASCII/ASNI/PC emulations allow the 3153 to be configured for the most preferred ASCII/ANSI/PC emulation supported by the host system. The emulations can be combined with the dual session, 50 data rows, and split-screen capability allowing the end user to be connected to two different host systems, configured for two different ASCII/ANSI/PC emulations and running two different host applications in a top-bottom format, simultaneously. o Communications Interface The 3153 offers two serial communication ports and a parallel printer port. This allows the 3153 to be used in a variety of mixed host and printer environments. Using the two serial communications ports, you can configure the 3153 for dual session by dual port and attach a parallel printer that can be shared by either host session. Both host sessions can also be viewed on the screen at the same time. Also, using the two serial ports when configured with one host session, the second serial port could be used to attach a serial printer. For improved operator performance, the main serial communications port supports communication speeds up to 134.4 Kbps, compared to the more common serial communication speeds of 38.4 Kbps. o Other 3153 User Features The 3153 offers many end-user features. - The 24, 25, 28, 42, 43, and 50 display data rows configured in a 80- or 132-column format allow you to view more rows of data within a host application. The 24, 28, 42, and 50 data rows do not include top status row and the bottom status/label row. The 25 and 43 data rows do not include the top status row. - Local desk accessories (calendar, clock, calculator, ASCII chart) for end-user convenience. - Split screen allows you to view two host sessions simultaneously. - Eight pages of memory lets you view a screen within a host application while at the same time the host can be sending data for the next screen, increasing application response time. - Twenty-eight programmable keys allow you to customize selected keys to your environment. - Cut and paste allows you to copy a block of characters between two host sessions or within the same host session for increased user productivity. o Meets National and International Standards and Guidelines With 3153 setup, the 3153 meets many national and international standards and guidelines on ergonomics, emissions, safety, and power consumption. With 3153 setup, the 3153 meets Standard 9241 Part 3 on ergonomics. This standard specifies front-of-screen characteristics, such as flicker, jitter, brightness, character height, character format, character spacing, and luminance balance. Compliance with ISO Standard 9241 Part 3 provides for improved operator comfort and performance. The 3153 offers customers many ergonomic features: - A choice of green, amber, and white monitors with full overscan - High refresh rates of 60, 71, 82, and 100 Hz - Very wide range (+/- 135 degrees) of swivel with the tilt/swivel stand The 3153 also supports power management techniques that turn off 3153 components during periods of inactivity. Power management reduces power consumption up to 41%, reducing energy costs and prolonging the life of the 3153 when it is left unattended for a period of time.
