Today, IBM announces that CICS/MVS and IMS/VS Data Communications subsystems will participate in the System/370 Systems Application Architecture (SAA) environment. HIGHLIGHTS o CICS/MVS and IMS/VS Data Communications subsystems participate in Systems Application Architecture by providing elements of the Common Programming Interface (CPI) and enabling application programming access to the capabilities of the intelligent workstation (IWS). o A new interface is designated -- the Communications Interface -- and added to the CPI. This element of the CPI provides a high-level, consistent interface to the LU Type 6.2 Common Communications Support protocol to facilitate the development of IWS-to-host applications. 287-484 IBM TRANSACTION PROCESSING FACILITY VERSION 2 RELEASE 4 Transaction Processing Facility (TPF) Version 2 provides high-capacity system support facilities, extended high-availability, and low-cost-per-message processing, in a high-performance user interactive system designed for online support of realtime message driven transactions. The specialized architecture of TPF Version 2 is intended for optimal system efficiency, reliability, and responsiveness for data communication and data-base processing. Release 4 is based on IBM System/370 Extended Architecture (370-XA) and completely replaces Release 3. It supports System/370-XA processors, 3990 storage controllers, and 3380 Direct Access Storage Devices (DASD). Reliability is increased through simplification of 370-XA Input/Output (XA I/O) initiation. Tightly Coupled supports the higher capacity opportunities provided by the multi-processors in central processing complexes. TPF 2.4 utilizes all channels provided by IBM 370-XA processors. The ACF/TPF feature enables connectivity to current level System Network Architecture (SNA) networks as a peripheral host node, (Type 2.1), and is able to benefit from the use of certain network management facilities of Advanced Communications Function/Virtual Telecommunication Access Method (ACF/VTAM) Version 3 Release 2 and associated licensed programs. A new feature, Multi-Processor Interconnect Facility (MPIF), enables communications at high speeds between TPF systems. TPF 2.4 is also supported as a guest operating system under Virtual Machine/Extended Architecture System Product (VM/XA SP) Release 1 Enhancement, Multiple Preferred Guest. This supported environment is only possible when TPF-specific processor and storage controller RPQs are not required. TPF Version 2 Release 4 consists of the base product and three features. Base Content: o Tightly Coupled Extended Architecture (TCXA) o Extended Architecture/Input Output (XA/IO) o 31-Bit Extended Architecture (31-Bit XA) o Extended Record Identification Attribute Table (RIAT) o 3990 Storage Controller and 3380 Direct Access Storage Device (DASD) o User Exits Forward Fit Features: o Advanced Communication Function (ACF) feature, which enables TPF Version 2 Release 4 to participate in an SNA multisystem network. This feature also enables peripheral host node support (Type 2.1). This feature is a prerequisite of the High Performance Option (HPO) feature and may co-reside with the MPIF feature. o High Performance Option (HPO), providing for Loosely Coupled multiple application systems, and the Multiple Data Base Facility (MDBF). This feature has the ACF feature as its prerequisite and may co-reside with the MPIF feature. o Multi-Processor Interconnect Facility (MPIF), which provides an interface that allows TPF systems to perform high-speed communications with other TPF systems. This feature may co-reside with all other features of the system.
