IN BRIEF . . . o Centralized administration o Single contact point for vendors o Ordering via 800-IBM-CALL (426-2255), extension 130 o Support provided via AS/400 Program SERVICES ANNOUNCEMENTS 693-019 COOPERATIVE SERVICES: AS/400 DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM The AS/400 (R) Distribution System Cooperative Service offering is provided by Worldwide Chain Store Systems, Inc., a wholly owned company of IBM. IBM markets the offering through the Cooperative Service Marketing Program and is not responsible for, nor does IBM warrant, the offering. The announcement is to accommodate customer requirements where there is no IBM solution. All information regarding the AS/400 Distribution System service offering (including prices and functional descriptions) has been provided by Worldwide Chain Store Systems (WCSS), Inc. The AS/400 Distribution System was designed to address warehouse and distribution center challenges of the 1990's. Distribution operations are being strained by demands for: o Shorter cycle times for processing and shipping orders o Reduced inventories and better use of space o Better customer service o Improved accuracy in processing orders and controlling inventories o Electronic linkage of vendors and customers. Batch-oriented systems can no longer meet requirements. As a result, distribution centers are moving towards real-time processing systems to address these demands and to gain a competitive edge. The AS/400 Distribution System provides a real-time, interactive solution for warehouse and distribution center merchandise control. As a key component of this strategy, the IBM PC Company announces the IBM MM-1 Multimedia Audio Option. The IBM MM-1 is extremely user-friendly and provides compatibility with a wide range of IBM and OEM audio adapters. Quality sound is achieved through the computer-aided customized design of the integral stereo amplifier, speakers and the internal acoustic chambers. Although the IBM MM-1 provides focused sonic dispersion optimized for near field listening, the level of sound in terms of volume and quality is still sufficient to meet all needs up to small conference room size (20 to 25 people). Front controls for volume, tone and balance, along with mute buttons and jacks for headphones and microphones, give the user needed control within easy reach. The controls "pop-up" for adjustment and push flush again when not in use. These ergonomic controls plus the saving in deskspace effected by the integral design and cable management system, make the IBM MM-1 a very user-friendly product. Connectivity is the essence of the IBM MM-1. With industry standard audio connectors and the ability to fit under any monitor, it provides compatibility with almost all systems, IBM or OEM. Although the IBM MM-1 is compatible with most PC monitors and systems, it has been specifically designed to complement the industrial design of IBM's new family of monitors.
