These point enablers may interfere with other device drivers that use the defined interface. This may result in problems that are hard to diagnose. Users must ensure that their specific environment is not effected by PC Card point enablers that bypasses defined interfaces. - PCMCIA adapter (PC Card) diagnostics program usually doesn't support slot number greater than two. To diagnose a suspected failing PCMCIA adapter installed in the ThinkPad Port Replicator Model I (slot number three or four), for test purposes, install the suspected PCMCIA adapter in the system PCMCIA slot (slot number one or two) and then run the diagnostic program. - "Point Enabler" (one of the device drivers of PCMCIA adapter) doesn't support slot number greater than two. This point enabler can not be used for a PCMCIA adapter (PC Card) installed in the slot of the IBM ThinkPad Port Replicator Model I PCMCIA slot (slot number three or four) - PC Card Director does not support the OS/2 MVDH environment. o Video & Display - Video Capture Adapter which requires VGA pass-through (video pass-through, VESA bus) is not supported by the ThinkPad 370C and the IBM ThinkPad Dock I / the IBM ThinkPad Dock II. - Analog-to Digital Video Converter Adapter is not supported by the ThinkPad 370C and the IBM ThinkPad Dock I / the IBM ThinkPad Dock II. - The IBM 8516 "touch screen" color display requires the TrackPoint II to be disabled before connecting it to the external display connector. To disable the TrackPoint II, follow the instructions provided in the ThinkPad 370C Users Guide. o PASSWORDs - The HDD password (HDP) is not supported when the hard disk drive is installed in either the IBM ThinkPad Dock I or the IBM ThinkPad Dock II. The HDD password must be removed while the hard disk drive is directly (without a ThinkPad Dock) installed in the computer. After the removal of the HDD password, the drive can be used with either IBM ThinkPad Dock I or the IBM ThinkPad Dock II. Hard disk drive is secured by the security lock and tie-down capability when used with either the IBM ThinkPad Dock I or the IBM ThinkPad Dock II. - Password prompt is not displayed when the computer resumes from "partial" suspend mode while it is attached to the IBM ThinkPad Dock I or the IBM ThinkPad Dock II. However, you need to enter a correct password to continue. o Considerations when Audio Card is installed - When Audio software is used (i.e. MIDI player, etc.) the CPU speed should be set "Fast". - When OS/2 2.11 is installed, audio functions are supported in OS/2 native environment only. Audio support in the WIN-OS/2 sessions of OS/2 is not provided. - When OS/2 Warp is installed, MIDI function is not supported. - When using any audio related AT card (Action Media II, etc.) it is recommended to use audio device driver that comes with the AT card. - When the IBM ThinkPad TV-Tuner pack is installed, the system power management function will be effected as follows: -- Games with sound effects are supported via DOS Driver support. However some games do not run correctly because of system resource restriction or API incompatibility. -- When the system enters into suspend mode, the TV-Tuner will be powered off. -- When the TV-Tuner is in control of the LCD screen, the timer will not work for the suspend or hibernation mode. But the hotkey operation (Fn+F4), LID/KBD open/close operation will invoke the suspend mode. - If the audio device driver is disabled, periodic noise will be heard with some applications (such as IBM Story Board Live). To avoid the noise, it is recommended to enable the audio feature. o Suspend Mode Operational Considerations - Do not remove or install PC cards during suspend mode. - When using Windows 3.11, ensure that the Advanced Power Management (APM) is installed. - To re-establish communication after suspend mode, restart the system or the application program. - Setting the automatic power saving timer(System Suspend) in the Set Advanced Features Menu is valid when entering suspend mode when any PC card is in use. - Non-disruptive battery exchange allows the user to put the system in suspend mode and exchange battery packs without any loss of data or function. - During suspend mode, the maximum power output becomes 60mA at 12V. So, during suspend mode, PCMCIA cards cannot consume more than 60mA at 12V. 1.9.3 PLANNING INFORMATION 1.9.3.1.1 CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES The ThinkPad 370C is designed for customer setup. Setup documentation is contained in the User's Guide shipped with the system. 1.9.3.1.2 CABLE ORDERS All required cables are included with the system. 1.9.3.1.3 INSTALLABILITY The ThinkPad 370C system requires about 15 minutes for installation. Installation includes unpacking, setting up and powering on the system. Additional time is required to install other memory, other features, and to customize software. 1.9.3.1.4 PROBLEM DETERMINATION If a failure is found at initial installation, an instruction or error code is displayed on the screen. Previously announced following accessories can be used with ThinkPad 370C. ACCESSORIES PART NUMBER ----------------------------------------------------- ----------- IBM ThinkPad 750 FDD Ext. Att. Kit 66G3618 IBM ThinkPad 750 Batt. Pack Safety Cover 66G3686 IBM ThinkPad 750 Key Guard 66G3685 IBM ThinkPad 750 Security Base 66G3684 IBM PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse Connector 54G0441 1.9.4 SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL STANDARD SECURITY FEATURES o Passwords - A Power-on Password (POP) protects the system from unauthorized use. If a POP is set, the password prompt appears: -- Each time the system is turned on -- When the system is returned to normal operation from suspend mode by LCD of the computer is opened or the Fn key is pressed. If the return to normal operation is caused by the timer or an incoming call through modem, the password prompt does not appear. The LCD remains blank until the correct password is entered. - A Supervisor Password provides a higher level of security than the POP. The Supervisor Password protects the system functions from being used by unauthorized users, and protects the hardware configuration from unauthorized modification. The Supervisor Password prompt appears: -- When the hardware configuration is changed - The HDD Password (HDP) is a feature of the systems. It is used to protect hard disk drive (HDD) data. Once HDP is set, data on the HDD cannot be accessed without the correct HDP. Because the HDP is stored in the HDD, the data remains protected even if the HDD is removed to another system. The HDP password prompt appears: -- Each time the system is turned on -- When the system is returned to normal operation from suspend mode o Security Locking Lever The locking lever can be used to: - Prevent removal of the computer - Prevent the use of the system by securing the keyboard and internal optional features - Secure the hard disk drive The lever cover is used to shield the locking lever in the computer to prevent removal of internal resources (HDD, Memory, FDD etc.) The user can use the hole in the locking lever to route a cable or chain and lock the system to a table, desk, etc. o The user can use the hook on the hard disk locking mechanism to leash with a user selected padlock and chain or cable. SECURITY OPTIONAL FEATURES o Security Base The Security Base act as a cradle for the system which serves as physical security: - Bolts the system to the desk. - Keylocks the system in the security base with the hard disk. - Locking mechanism. A padlock is user's choice. - Keylocks the Port Replicator Models I & II in the security - base with the PCMCIA cards (Model I). - Protects removal of hard disk. - Protects access to the screw holes in the system. - Protects access to the System Expansion and I/O connectors. User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and implementation of security features, administrative procedures and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities. 1.10 TERMS AND CONDITIONS For terms and conditions, contact your IBM Marketing Representative. 1.11 CHARGES Country prices must be obtained from your local pricing function. 1.11.1.1.1 PRODUCT CHARGES Purchase Description Part # M/T MDL Price ------------ ------- ---- --- ------ IBM ThinkPad 370C(340MB,TFT,DX4) 23H2582 9545 QQC $x,xxx IBM ThinkPad 370C(540MB,TFT,DX4) 23H2583 9545 QQD $x,xxx IBM ThinkPad 370C(340MB,TFT,DX4) 23H2580 9545 QHC $x,xxx IBM ThinkPad 370C(540MB,TFT,DX4) 23H2581 9545 QHD $x,xxx 1.11.1.1.2 PUBLICATION CHARGES Publication Order Number Charge ----------------------------------------- ------------ ---------- o IBM ThinkPad 370C User's Guide S30H-1661-00 $xxx o IBM ThinkPad 370C Diskettes Group S30H-1662-00 $xxx o IBM ThinkPad Technical Reference S83G-7843-02 $xxx Service Publication Order Number Charge ------------------------------------------- ------------ ---------- o Hardware Maintenance Manual S82G-1502-03 $xxx o Hardware Maintenance Diskettes S82G-3891-01 $xxx ALTERNATIVE AND MAINTENANCE SERVICE CHARGES 1.11.1.1.3 ANNUAL MINIMUM MAINTENANCE CHARGES ThinkPad EasyServ Charges: Machine Model Number ThinkPad EasyServ -------------------- ----------------- 9545-QBC $XXX 9545-QBD $XXX 1.11.1.1.4 PRICE REDUCTION CREDIT o Category 1 1.12 EXTERNAL ATTACHMENT The ThinkPad 370C systems are designed to be compatible with the following peripherals and software products that run on other PS/2 systems.
