A purchase-only machine, the 3104 is @ available with price reductions of up to 15% of the unit price through volume purchase. The 3104 Display Terminal is a 12-inch CRT keyboard display with a 1920-character screen (24X80 characters). It provides function equivalent to an 8775 Model 1 (1920 characters) or 3278 Model 2 (960/1920 characters only). HIGHLIGHTS o 3104 offers: A low profile - Model B10 75-key 3104 data entry keyboard - Model B20 87-key EBCDIC 3104 typewriter keyboard o The new terminal consists of three separate machine elements: video, logic and a new, low-profile keyboard. This offers the advantage of customer-replaceable work station elements for ease of maintenance and high availability. o The 3104 has been designed with the work in mind. The video element can tilt and swivel to provide a comfortable viewing position. The keyboard may be moved to accommodate the user. The video element has a contrast enhancing screen filter and a 7 X 14 dot character matrix for easy viewing. DELIVERY First customer shipment of the 3104 will be in January, 1983. DESCRIPTION o The 3104 attaches to the Multiuse Communication Loop. A direct-attached loop to an 8100 Information System may operate at a data rate of 9600 or 38.4K bps. A data-link attached loop may be connected to an 8100 System or 4321/4331 Processor via a 3843 loop control unit at a @ data-link rate of 2400, 4800, or 9600 bps. @ o The functions of the 8775 Model 1 with 87-key/75-key keyboard, keyboard numeric lock, audible alarm, and monocase switch features are supported to facilitate coexistence with the 8775. The 3104 Display Terminal also provides function equivalent to the 3278 Model 2 with the features: 87-key/75-key keyboard, keyboard numeric lock, and audible alarm (see the "Compatibility" section). o The 3104 has the following functions: cursor positioning, input editing, upper/lower case characters, typamatic capability (all alphanumeric, special symbol, and cursor-move keys), and field control (protected, highlighted intensity, non-display, numeric and cursor select). Ten program function (PF) keys are available on the data entry keyboard, and 24 PF keys are available on the typewriter keyboard. o Through the use of error indicators, offline test, visual indicators, and the Customer Problem Analysis and Resolution (CPAR) Guide, the customer can isolate the failing element. If the customer keeps spare elements in stock, the 3104 can be restored to operating condition by replacing the failing element. Minimum Configuration The minimum configuration requires that the 8100 System or 4321/ @ 4331 Processor provide the capability for attachment of the @ Multiuse Communication Loop or a communication facility to support a data-link direct-attached loop (via the 3843 Loop Control Unit) to the associated system. Programming Support The 3104 Display Terminal is supported by the following programs: For 8100: Multiuse Communication Loop attachment o Distributed Processing Programming Executive/Base (DPPX/BASE) o DPPX/Distributed Presentation Services (DPPX/DPS) o DPPX/3270 Data Stream Compatibility (DPPX/DSC) o Distributed Processing Control Executive (DPCX) including the 3270 Data Stream Compatibility For 4321 or 4331: Multiuse Communication Loop Attachment @ o Disk Operating System/Virtual Storage Extended (DOS/VSE) @ o Operating System/Virtual Storage 1 (OS/VS 1 - 4331 only) @ o Advanced Communication Function for VTAM Entry (ACF/VTAME) @ o Advanced Communication Function for VTAM (ACF/VTAM) @ o Customer Information Control System DOS/VS, OS/VS, @ (CICS/DOS/VS, CICS/OS/VS). @ o Network Communications Control Facility (NCCF) @ o Network Problem Determination Application (NPDA) @ o VSE/Interactive Computing and Control Facility (VSE/ICCF) @ o Screen Definition Facility/Customer Information Control System @ (SDF/CICS). @ For System/370 and 4300 using 3270 data stream compatibility @ support in the 8100: o VTAM applications under DOS/VSE, OS/VS1, OS/VS2 (MVS) o TCAM applications under OS/VA1 OS/VS2 (MVS) o IMS/VS under OS/VS1, OS/VS2 (MVS) o CICS/VS under DOS/VS, DOS/VSE, OS/VS1, OS/VS2 (MVS) o TSO/TCAM under OS/VS2 (MVS) o TSO/VTAM under OS/VS2 (MVS) o VSPC under OS/VS2 (MVS) o BTAM applications under DOS/VSE, OS/VS1, OS/VS2 (MVS), VM/370 NOTE: Attachment of the 3104 Display Terminal to the 8100/DPCX and 8100/DPPX Systems has the following limitations: 1. 3104 Display Terminals having Swiss/bilingual languages are supported by 8100/DPPX with English EBCDIC and 8100/DPCX with International Language Feature #2935. 2. IBM provided commands in DPPX, DPCX, and DOSF are limited to the English subset. DPPX commands developed by the user can utilize the full Swiss/ bilingual character set. Data Stream Compatibility is fully supported by DPPX and DPCX. 3. DPCX/DOSF is limited in Text Mode to the English subset. Modifications by other than Swiss/bilingual terminals to DPCX data sets which were created by Swiss/bilingual terminals may cause loss of data. 4. Coexistence of Swiss/bilingual terminals and terminals other than those with the International language is not supported by either DPPX or DPCX. 5. Terminals with Swiss/bilingual terminals and International can coexist with data stream support provided by user application software. 6. The user must insure that any data for printing that contains Swiss/bilingual characters beyond the International subset must be sent to a Swiss/bilingual printer which supports those characters. Data for printing from the International subset may be sent to a Swiss/bilingual printer or International subset printer.
