The IBM 6770 System (impact printer) and IBM 6780 System (non-impact printer) are new members of the IBM typewriter family of products and designed for general purpose office applications. These systems offer price/function advantages over the current IBM Electronic Typewriter Models 85 and 95. ANNOUNCEMENT HIGHLIGHTS IBM 6770 System - provide advanced revision and display functions, and modular functional growth through the addition of user insertable storage and application program cartridges. A system consists of four Customer Set Up (CSU) elements: an 80 character display mounted on a moveable keyboard, and an electronic function pack attached to an impact printer (up to 16 CPS) using printwheel technology. IBM 6780 System - same as above except they have a non-impact printer (up to 60 CPS) using resistive ribbon technology, which works best when using smooth, xerographic papers. These systems cannot make carbon, carbonless, or multipart form copies. A system using FUNCTION PACK 20 (F.P. 20) is referred to as a System/20. A system using FUNCTION PACK 40 (F.P. 40) including TEXTPACK A cartridge is referred to as System/40. The TEXTPACK A cartridge contains enhanced document revision functions, including format storage, forms feature via mark function, delay print by line, alternate language selection, annotated stop code, storage location directory, and memory available query. All supplies used on System 6770 and System 6780 are the same as used on the IBM 6746/6747/6750 typewriters. OPTIONAL FEATURES o FUNCTION PACK (F.P.) 40 (32K RAM) with TEXTPACK A cartridge, o STORAGE 16K RAM cartridge o ROS APPLICATION cartridge o SPELL CHECK cartridge o The Sound Hood is a standard feature on the IBM 6770 System (Impact Printer). PRODUCT DESCRIPTION IBM 6770 SYSTEM In addition to the features incorporated into the IBM 6746 and 6747 Typewriters, the IBM 6770 System has: o Movable keyboard with 80 character full line display o User storage of approximately 11,500 characters (SYSTEM/20) or 26,000 characters (SYSTEM/40). o Up to full page automatic correction depending upon amount of unused user storage. o Enhanced document revision, format storage, forms feature via mark function, delay print by line, alternate language selection, annotated stop code, storage location directory, and memory available query. o Modular growth by change or addition of features, i.e. user attachable function packs and insertable cartridges. o Keyboards (96 character, multilingual): Any physical keyboard can access any other country or special keyboard/character set as all are programmed in the system. However, a different printwheel (IBM 6770 SYSTEM) or font (IBM 6780 SYSTEM) may need to be inserted in order to print the other keyboard characters. IBM 6780 SYSTEM This system has all the advanced features of the IBM 6770, plus: o Advanced non-impact print technology which provides the following benefits: - Very quiet operation - Single supply ribbon cartridge (no lift-off tape required) - Virtually undetectable correction (erase). The use of the correcting ribbon is not recommended for negotiable instruments or similar documents. NOTE This system will not make carbon, carbonless or multipart form copies, and prints best using smooth, xerographic papers. o Print/Erase controls o Two on-line user changeable electronic fonts, each with up to 220 characters which support a wide range of keyboard character sets without physical replacement of print font. o Expand - Doubles the width of each character o High-Speed playback - 10-pitch = 40 CPS (maximum) - 12-pitch = 48 CPS (maximum) - 15-pitch = 60 CPS (maximum) - Proportional Spacing: Approximately same as 12 pitch o Caps Lock - Across all country language keyboards OPTIONAL FEATURES All Optional Features are Customer Set Up. o FUNCTION PACK 40: Contains 32,000 bytes of RAM (with battery back up), provides user storage of approximately 26,000 characters. It has three slots for user insertable cartridges, with one slot reserved for RAM extension cartridges and the other two for application program cartridges (one of which must be TEXTPACK A cartridge which provides the advanced revision typewriter functions as contained in F.P. 20). FUNCTION PACK 20 is only available as a spare part, since it is not required as an upgrade feature. Only FUNCTION PACK 40 is available to upgrade a System/20 to a System/40. o STORAGE 16K cartridge: Provides user storage of approximately 14,500 characters of RAM storage, with non-replaceable battery backup. o SPELL CHECK: Provides interactive or batch verification of approximately 50,000 words, with provision for a user-unique, approximately 300 words, supplemental dictionary. Spell Check is available in U.K. English, German and French language with same FCS as systems availability. Other languages, i.e. Dutch, Italian, Spanish and Danish will be available in 1986. MODEL CONVERSIONS IBM 6770 or 6780 SYSTEM/20 is user upgradeable to SYSTEM/40 by replacing FUNCTION PACK 20 with FUNCTION PACK 40 and TEXTPACK A cartridge.
