It has also been modified to support the enhanced Screen Reader Keypad which can be connected to the serial port, the mouse port, or the Screen Reader Adapter. The IBM Screen Reader/2 provides a user interface to IBM Personal Systems running IBM OS/2 that enables a blind or visually impaired user to hear screen information. It is compatible with and transparent to applications. IBM Screen Reader/2 requires an IBM Screen Reader Keypad for control and uses an OEM text-to-speech voice synthesizer for output. IBM Screen Reader/2 is a product of the IBM Independent Series of products for the handicapped user. The National Language versions of SR/2 provide access to applications running in the National Language version of OS/2. For example Access to Italian OS/2 is provided by Italian Screen Reader/2. It is also the first to provide audio output of textual screen information in the Graphical User Interface (GUI). Technical Information Specified Operating Environment Machine Requirements IBM Screen Reader/2 Ver 1.21 runs on any IBM Personal System capable of running OS/2 WARP Ver 3. The National Language version of Screen Reader/2 supports National Language versions of applications running with the National Language version of O S/2 WARP Ver 3. The Screen Reader Keypad (required) (P/N 06H5990) can be connected to the Serial port, the Mouse port, or the Screen Reader Adapter. Programming Requirements IBM Screen Reader/2 requires OS/2 Warp Ver 3 (5622-601) Compatibility IBM Screen Reader/2 is compatible with Screen Reader 1.0, 1.1 and Screen Reader/2 Version 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 in function. Hardware used with previous version is the same hardware used with IBM Screen Reader/2. Limitations IBM Screen Reader/2 customers may need technical support while using IBM Screen Reader/2 with some applications. Planning Information Customer Responsibilities IBM Conditions of Use apply to all Dual Media packages, thus the program in a package may only be used on a single machine at any one time, even though the program may be provided in the package on two different sized media. If a customer wishes to use an IBM Conditions of Use program concurrently on more than one machine at a time, irrespective of the size of the medium, he must acquire that number of program packages equal to the number of concurrent users of the program.
