Printer-keyboard

Category: ConceptsMore information

A printer-keyboard is a terminal-like device where an input keyboard and an output printer are in proximity and often share the same overall housing. Despite effectively being a typewriter in form, the two components are typically independent of one another, with a controlling system such as an IBM host processor directly receiving input data and outputting to the printer. The IBM 1052, 3210 and 3215 are amongst the most prominent IBM printer-keyboards. They were common before CRT display terminals were widespread, but they influenced many IBM terminal and console keyboard layouts.
